Wimbledon Irish Centre Mosaic Installation

Oct 16, 2016

Wimbledon Irish Centre has recently installed this new mosaic wall panel commissioned and donated by Tom MacMillan which depicts the four provinces of Ireland - Connacht, Leinster, Minster and Ulster. The making took place over a number of months with all the tesserae - the small mosaic pieces - being made here at the workshop first, then with the four sections being mosaiced separately by a dedicated team of students. The panel is approximately 1.25m wide and is displayed in the lobby-bar area there for all to see. The biggest THANK-YOU goes to David, Hazel, Mary, Medina, Kelly, Rebekah, Roxanne and Toby for their unstinting enthusiasm throughout!

There is a bit of history to this, Tom, a longstanding supporter of Workshop 305, has helped us develop connections with the Irish Centre over a number of years - this piece is the eigth panel that we have had the pleasure to make, with the others being commissioned by the centre itself.
