These workshops are a great way to spend quality time with friends and family and meet new people. They can become habit forming!

A bit more about the evening workshop sessions:

Pottery - If you are new to pottery then over the first weeks of the workshop you will be shown the basics for working with clay from making thumb-pots and coil building to tile making and throwing on the wheel; this will also include simple decorating and glazing techniques.

Once you have completed and glazed your work you can try other techniques like clay slab construction, using plaster moulds, clay modelling and more complex forms on the wheel. We have a slab-rolling machine for preparing large slabs of clay, an extruder for coils and hollow forms, electric pottery wheels including one that is height-adjustable and suitable for wheelchair users and two electric kilns.

The pottery workshop is very spacious and we offer mosaic very effectively at the same time.

Mosaic - We have a large range of glass and home-made tiles available for you to create and decorate a piece of your choice - it could be a mirror frame, a mosaic panel, a table top, a house-number or maybe a 3-dimensional object that you've found and want to decorate - the choice is yours! Another option, although probably more realistic for those who stay beyond the first workshop, is to make your own tiles and/or clay models to include in your own very personal design.

We work primarily using the direct method where you see exactly what you are making - the reverse technique is more complex and is taught to those with more experience. Mosaic is absorbing and can be time demanding but we will advise you on what is achievable in the given time. First-time makers should consider making a smaller item in the first instance.

BASIC MATERIALS: WOOD, GLUE AND GROUT ARE INCLUDED IN THE COST - FOR MOSAIC TILES AND CLAY THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE ACCORDING TO THE WEIGHT OR SIZE OF THE WORK (mosaic charges can vary from £2.50 - £25.00+)
